Shelley Maley: Helping People Find Clarity, Confidence and Connections in Their Careers
The Lehigh Valley Elite Network is proud to welcome Shelley Maley, PHR, CCSP, Founder of Dreamcatcher Career Coaching, LLC and creator of GRADvertise™, as a special guest presenter for our August 27 Business Networking Event.
Careers rarely follow a perfectly straight line. People change. Industries change. Priorities change. Sometimes a professional reaches a point where the question isn't simply, "How do I find another job?" but rather, "Where do I want the next chapter of my career and life to take me?" Shelley understands that experience personally.
After successfully navigating five career pivots across three different industries, she turned those experiences—combined with her background in Human Resources—into a career dedicated to helping other people navigate their own professional transitions.
From Career Transitions to Career Coaching
Before becoming a career coach, Shelley built experience across hospitality, healthcare, and higher education. Along the way, she experienced many of the challenges professionals encounter throughout their working lives: career dissatisfaction, workplace stress, difficult environments, burnout, and the uncertainty that can accompany a major career transition.
Those experiences ultimately helped shape Dreamcatcher Career Coaching, where Shelley has spent years helping job seekers and professionals better understand their strengths, interests, values, and career goals.
Her philosophy can be summarized simply: Dream Big. Plan Well. Work Happy.
Rather than treating every unhappy employee as someone who necessarily needs an entirely new career, Shelley encourages people to first understand why they're dissatisfied.
Sometimes you've outgrown a profession. Other times, the career itself isn't the problem—the workplace is. Understanding that distinction can prevent someone from walking away from a profession they enjoy simply because they are in the wrong environment.
Reinvention Doesn't Have an Expiration Date
One of Shelley's important messages is that career reinvention isn't limited to people at the beginning of their professional lives. People in their 40s, 50s and even 60s can successfully change direction.
A career pivot doesn't necessarily mean something went wrong. Priorities evolve. Interests change. New industries emerge. Technology creates new opportunities. Skills accumulated over decades can often be transferred into careers that didn't even exist when someone first entered the workforce.
And changing direction doesn't always require returning to college for another degree.
Professional certifications, online education, volunteer experience, independent projects, networking and transferable skills can all help someone establish credibility in a new field.
The Power of Human Connection
Technology has transformed recruiting and the job-search process, but Shelley emphasizes something that remains fundamentally human:
Relationships matter.
Communication, professionalism, teamwork, confidence and the ability to develop genuine relationships remain enormously important in virtually every profession.
Shelley works with colleges, universities and businesses to teach networking and professional etiquette, helping people become more comfortable introducing themselves, communicating their value and developing relationships.
That philosophy aligns closely with what we've worked to create through the Lehigh Valley Elite Network. Networking isn't simply about collecting business cards. It's about conversations. It's about learning what another person does. It's about becoming someone people know, remember and trust. And sometimes one relationship or introduction can completely change the direction of someone's career.
Helping the Next Generation Launch Their Careers
Shelley's newest initiative, GRADvertise™, focuses specifically on recent college graduates and young professionals preparing to enter or establish themselves in today's competitive employment market.
Its message is: "Your degree got you to the runway. GRADvertise™ helps you take off!"
GRADvertise™ isn't designed as traditional career coaching. It is a structured personal-branding and career-launch program intended to transform a graduate's education, strengths, experiences and potential into a professional presence employers can quickly understand and remember.
Participants work on developing a credible and authentic personal brand, creating a stronger LinkedIn presence, improving their professional visibility, developing customized job-search strategies and building momentum toward interviews, connections and career opportunities.
For young professionals, earning the degree is an enormous accomplishment. But the next challenge is learning how to communicate:
Who are you? | What can you contribute? | What makes you different? | And why should an employer remember you?
Those questions have become increasingly important in an employment environment where candidates compete not only through résumés and applications but through their professional presence, relationships and digital visibility.
Bringing Generations Together Through Networking
Shelley's work also highlights something particularly relevant to our business community.
Experienced professionals have accumulated decades of knowledge, relationships and perspective. Young professionals bring new ideas, technologies, energy and different ways of approaching problems. Networking creates an opportunity for those generations to meet.
A conversation between an established business leader and someone just beginning a career can become mentorship, an introduction, an internship, a job opportunity, a client relationship—or simply advice that someone remembers for the rest of their professional life.
That exchange of experience is one of the reasons we continue bringing professionals from different industries, generations and backgrounds together through the Lehigh Valley Elite Network.
